The Egon Schiele Museum in Tulln an der Donau is a museum of fine arts dedicated to the painter Egon Schiele, who was born in the town. The museum showcases the early works of the artist and his relationship with his hometown Tulln and the region of Lower Austria. It also highlights his passion for toy trains.
The museum's permanent exhibition titled "Egon Schiele: The Beginnings of the Artist" was reopened in April 2011 after renovation and redesign measures. The exhibition focuses on Schiele's early work and his relationship with his hometown Tulln and the region of Lower Austria. The exhibition is exclusively equipped with originals from the collections of the municipality of Tulln and the Museum Lower Austria, as well as a private collection.
The museum also features a treasure chamber with original works that focus on different chapters from the artist's life each year. This provides visitors with a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the life and works of Egon Schiele.
The museum has rented and furnished Schiele's birth room and an adjacent room at the Tulln train station. The room is equipped with furniture that corresponded to the taste of the time, as no photographs of the rooms are preserved. The curtains of the room were modeled after those in a photo of the apartment of Leopold Czihaczek, who was Egon Schiele's uncle and guardian. The original tiled stove, in which Schiele's father burned his shares in a fit of mental confusion, is on display.

Visitors appreciate the museum's thoughtful presentation of Schiele's artwork, which includes early sketches, paintings, and personal artifacts. The chronological arrangement allows for a clear understanding of the artist's evolution and the influences that shaped his distinctive style. Many reviewers highlight the informative audio guide, available in multiple languages, which enhances the viewing experience with detailed explanations and context.
The museum's setting in Schiele's renovated birth house adds an authentic touch, allowing visitors to connect with the artist's roots.
