Industrial Discovery Centre at Taylor's Shaft

At Taylor's Shaft, the National Trust has established an Industrial Discovery Centre. This centre incorporates several buildings dating from the 1920s, providing a glimpse into the past. One of these buildings is the engine house, which still contains the 90-inch (2.3 m) Harvey's Engine. This engine was saved from being scrapped thanks to a donation from an American benefactor, and is now a key attraction for visitors to the site.

East Pool Mine has 1 rating.

  • Apollo's Insights AI-Generated

East Pool Mine, located in Pool, England, offers visitors an insightful look into Cornwall's rich mining heritage. The site features well-preserved beam engines, providing a tangible connection to the area's industrial past. Visitors often appreciate the informative guided tours, which explain the workings of the mine and its historical significance. The museum effectively illustrates the harsh conditions miners faced and the engineering innovations of the time. Some reviewers note that the experience can be enhanced by the knowledgeable and passionate volunteers who bring the history to life. However, a few visitors mention that the site is relatively small and may not occupy a full day. The authentic atmosphere and the opportunity to see massive machinery up close are frequently highlighted as positives. While most find the exhibits interesting, some suggest that additional interactive elements could improve the experience for younger visitors. Overall, East Pool Mine provides a solid educational experience for those interested in industrial history, though it may not appeal as much to visitors seeking a more extensive or varied museum experience.
