Founding of the DuSable Museum
The DuSable Museum was originally founded as the Ebony Museum of Negro History and Art in 1961 by a group of artists and educators, including Margaret Taylor-Burroughs, her husband Charles Burroughs, and Gerard Lew. Their efforts were aimed at correcting the perceived absence of black history and culture in academia.
