Dubuc Castle, originally a colonial mansion, is located in Tartane, a village in the commune of La Trinité in Martinique. This historical site, now in ruins, was built in the early 18th century around a sugar plantation worked by slaves. It offers a glimpse into the colonial history of the region and the sugar industry that once thrived there.
The mansion was built by Louis du Buc in 1725. However, it was damaged by an earthquake and a tropical cyclone in 1727. Despite these natural disasters, the mansion and the sugar refinery continued to operate until the late 18th century. The ruins of the mansion and the refinery are a testament to the resilience of the structures and the people who lived and worked there.
The estate is currently undergoing restorations and has been designated as a historical monument of France since 1992. This recognition underscores the historical significance of the site and its importance in understanding the colonial history of Martinique. Visitors can explore the ruins and learn about the history of the mansion and the sugar industry in the region.
