The Wixhäuser Dorfmuseum, located in Darmstadt-Wixhausen, is housed in a fully restored Franconian half-timbered house. This building has a rich history, dating back to a medieval saddle yard. After the destructions of the Thirty Years' War, the building was rebuilt in 1662 using the ornamental half-timbering of another house. The two-story half-timbered house with a solid ground floor has a hipped roof covered with beaver tails.
The Wixhäuser Dorfmuseum offers nine rooms filled with exhibits that provide insight into the cultural and social history of the old village. These exhibits vividly document the former living conditions in Wixhausen. The museum's collection primarily consists of exhibits from the 18th and 19th centuries. It includes a saddler's, a shoemaker's and a wheelwright's workshop, a smoke kitchen, a home oven, farming tools, evening bricks, household items, toys, laundry, maps, building plans, and a collection of old photographs.
