The Diocesan Museum of Gallipoli is situated in the city of Gallipoli itself and is managed by the Diocese of Nardò-Gallipoli. This museum is a significant cultural institution in the region, offering visitors a chance to explore a rich collection of religious artifacts and historical items.
The museum is housed within the old palazzo of Gallipoli's seminary, which is located next to the Cathedral Basilica. The construction of this historic building began in 1750, adding a layer of historical significance to the museum's location.
The museum's collection comprises 553 objects, including liturgical metal works, vestments, miters, pastoral and pectoral crosses, numerous portraits, bronze bells, ceramics decorated with the coats of arms of all the bishops of the diocese, and works by Gian Domenico Catalano. This diverse collection provides a comprehensive overview of the religious and artistic heritage of the region.
