The Deutscher Eisenbahn-Verein e. V. (DEV) is a club based in Bruchhausen-Vilsen. Its primary goal is to preserve a small railway with all its facilities as a living open-air museum. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for visitors to experience the historical railway system in its original form.

Operating Schedule of the Museum

The museum operates the Bruchhausen-Vilsen– Asendorf route on weekends from May to September and in December. The majority of these journeys are made using steam trains, providing a unique and authentic experience for visitors. This is a great opportunity for tourists to experience a piece of history firsthand.

Vehicle Collection at the Museum

The museum boasts a collection of more than 100 vehicles built between 1886 and 1964, the majority of which are still operational. These vehicles are primarily stored in several halls in Bruchhausen-Vilsen and Heiligenberg. Visitors have the opportunity to view these historical vehicles on operating days, adding a unique dimension to their museum experience.

Deutscher Eisenbahn-Verein Reviews

Deutscher Eisenbahn-Verein has 1 rating.

  • Apollo's Insights AI-Generated

The Deutscher Eisenbahn-Verein (German Railway Association) in Bruchhausen-Vilsen offers a charming experience for train enthusiasts and families alike. Visitors can explore a collection of historic locomotives and carriages, providing insight into the evolution of German railway technology. The museum's highlight is the opportunity to ride on vintage narrow-gauge trains, allowing guests to step back in time and experience travel as it was in the past. The volunteer staff are generally described as friendly and knowledgeable, adding value to the visit with their insights. However, some visitors note that information displays could be improved, particularly for non-German speakers. The outdoor setting and scenic route of the train rides are often praised, making it a pleasant outing, especially on good weather days. While the museum may not be extensive, it offers a hands-on, interactive experience that many find enjoyable. It's worth noting that the experience might be more limited during off-peak seasons or on weekdays.
