The Hüttenstollen Osterwald, located in Osterwald, was a mine in the eastern Osterwald coal district. It was opened in 1842 and has a rich history of coal mining. Today, it serves as a visitor mine and is a protected cultural monument.
In 1980, the Association for the Promotion of Mining was founded in Osterwald. This association transformed the disused Hüttenstollen into a visitor mine with an attached mining museum. The visitor mine was opened on June 28, 1980, and the museum was opened in 1985.
