Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum and its collection

The Davidstow Airfield Cornwall at War Museum has a wide remit, dedicated primarily to RAF Davidstow moor from its opening on 1st October 1942 until its closure at the end of 1945. It also covers all the other airfields along the North Comwall coast, the Royal Navy in and around the county, the Army civilian services, home front etc. The area is still a military training area so that gives the museum scope to bring in the post-war period.

  • Apollo's Insights AI-Generated

The Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum offers visitors an informative look into the area's World War II history. Located near Camelford, this museum is housed in original airfield buildings, adding authenticity to the experience. The exhibits feature a variety of wartime memorabilia, including aircraft parts, uniforms, and personal items from servicemen. Many visitors appreciate the volunteer staff's knowledge and enthusiasm, which enhances the overall experience. The museum's strength lies in its focus on local history and the impact of the war on Cornwall. However, some visitors note that the displays can feel somewhat cluttered or disorganized. The outdoor area, featuring aircraft remnants and structures, adds an interesting dimension to the visit. While the museum may not have the polish of larger institutions, its charm lies in its genuine artifacts and personal stories. Some visitors mention that more context or explanations for certain exhibits would be helpful. The museum's rural location means it might not be easily accessible for all, but many find the journey worthwhile for its unique perspective on wartime Cornwall.
