Cracker Country is a unique living history museum that offers a glimpse into rural Florida's past. Established in 1978, the museum features thirteen original buildings that date from 1870 to 1912, all set in the year 1898. These buildings were carefully moved from various locations throughout the state to their current location in East Lake-Orient Park. Visitors can explore these historical structures and get a sense of what life was like in rural Florida at the turn of the 20th century.
The General Store at Cracker Country serves as a gift shop for visitors, offering a range of merchandise that reflects the era the museum represents. Here, you can find items that replicate or reference popular items from a 1890s Florida town. From stick candy and period toys to games and home decor items, the General Store provides a unique shopping experience that complements your visit to the museum.
At Cracker Country, visitors have the opportunity to explore the Terry Store, a general store from the early 1900s. The store houses a collection of period items and recreated items from that era, providing a tangible connection to the past. Additionally, living history re-enactors, acting as shop clerks, are available to share the history of the store and the time period it represents. This interactive experience offers a unique insight into the daily life of the past.
