La sinagoga de Coro, located in Coro, Estado Falcón, Venezuela, holds the distinction of being the oldest synagogue in Latin America. Its proximity to the Caribbean Sea and the Dutch island of Curaçao adds to its historical and geographical significance.
The building that houses La sinagoga de Coro has a rich history. It was originally a house built around 1730 by the lieutenant governor of Coro, Francisco Campuzano Polanco. On July 30, 1847, it was bought by David Abraham Senior, a Sephardic merchant from Curaçao, marking the beginning of its transformation into a place of worship.
Today, La sinagoga de Coro serves as the headquarters of the Alberto Henríquez Art Museum. This museum is part of the National Experimental University Francisco de Miranda (UNEFM), further enhancing the cultural significance of the synagogue.
