The Civico Museo Didattico di Scienze Naturali Mario Strani is a museum situated in Pinerolo, a city in the Metropolitan City of Turin. Established in 1979, the museum offers a unique opportunity to explore the natural sciences in a historical setting.
Since 2013, the museum has been housed in Villa Prever, a liberty-style building from 1910. The villa is surrounded by a large park filled with centuries-old trees, providing a serene and beautiful environment for visitors.
The heart of the museum's collection is the mycological collection of Mario Strani. This collection, one of the largest in Europe, consists of about 3000 plaster and resin casts. These casts, made by Strani himself, illustrate specimens of about nine hundred species of fungi.
Over the years, the museum has expanded its collections to include entomological, malacological, and mineralogical specimens. There is also a small biospeleological collection, which includes specimens of insects found in various caves in the Piedmont region.
