Christy Woods is an arboretum that is dedicated to the ecosystems and native plants of Indiana. It also houses three greenhouses that are home to a variety of tropical plants. This provides a unique opportunity for visitors to explore and learn about the diverse flora of Indiana and tropical regions, all in one location.
Visitors to Christy Woods can explore the greenhouses from Monday to Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Weekend visits are also possible, but they require an appointment. This allows tourists to plan their visit according to their schedule and ensures they can fully experience the greenhouses.
The arboretum is home to the Wheeler orchid collection and species bank, which boasts about 1,200 orchid plants. These plants represent more than 85 genera, over 500 different species, and more than 100 hybrids. This extensive collection provides a unique opportunity for visitors to see a wide variety of orchids in one place.
