The Chido Museum, located in Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, is a private institution established in 1950. The museum was founded by the former Lord Sakai of the Shōnai Domain, who donated his properties with the aim of promoting local culture.
The Chido Museum site features several significant structures and areas. These include the Goinden, the retirement residence of the Sakai Lords built in 1863, and the Lord's arsenal, known as Mingu no Kura. Additionally, the museum has a beautiful Japanese garden attached, which has been designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty.
The Chido Museum is home to a number of Cultural Properties of Japan. These include two National Treasure tachi (traditional Japanese swords), a painting of Wang Zhaojun, which is an Important Cultural Property, and seven Important Tangible Folk Cultural Properties.
