Chana School, located in the county seat of Oregon, Illinois, is a Registered Historic Place. This unique two-room schoolhouse, which has been relocated from its original site, offers a glimpse into the past. The school's unusual shape adds to its charm and historical significance.
Currently located in a public park along the Rock River in Oregon, Illinois, the Chana School building offers more than just a typical 19th-century schoolhouse. Its interior boasts unique architectural elements that distinguish it from other schoolhouses of the same period.
In 1997, the Chana School was on the brink of demolition when the property was sold. However, local citizens formed the Chana School Foundation to save the historic building. The school was relocated to City Park East in Oregon, Illinois, and volunteers began refurbishing it in August 1998. After five years of restoration work, the school had its grand opening in September 2003. Since then, it has operated as a museum, providing insights into 1880s education in the United States.
