The Botín Centre, also known as the Botín Centre for Arts and Culture, is a cultural facility located in Santander, Cantabria, Spain. It aims to be a reference centre in Spain and to be part of the international circuit of leading art centres. The project is supported by the Marcelino Botín Foundation, created in 1964 by Marcelino Botín, and later presided over by Emilio Botín, president of Santander Bank until his death in 2014. The centre was inaugurated on 23 June 2017.
The west building of the Botín Centre is dedicated to art with exhibition rooms of 2,500 m, on two differentiated floors with a commercial and catering area on the ground floor. The smaller east building is dedicated to educational activities with a large terrace overlooking the Bay of Santander and a covered square on the ground floor of 950 m. This second building features a circular auditorium designed to host multiple activities and a multifunctional space.
The Botín Centre overlooks the sea, along the Bay of Santander, to the west of the maritime museum and the port, in place of an old ferry terminal. It is connected to the city by a large public park of about 48,000 m going to the sea and under which a tunnel is built to eliminate any traffic obstacle. This park doubles the surface of the Pereda Gardens, providing a serene and beautiful environment for visitors.
