The Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture, also known as CADVC, has a rich history dating back to 1989 when it was established as the Fine Art Gallery at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. This center serves as the university's main exhibition location, providing a space where students, professors, staff, and the public can engage with visual culture and explore cultural and aesthetic issues.
One of the unique features of CADVC is its traveling exhibition program. This program brings in work from prominent museums such as the Andy Warhol Museum, New Museum of Contemporary Art, and the International Center of Photography. This provides visitors with the opportunity to experience a diverse range of art from different institutions without having to travel to multiple locations.
CADVC also oversees the Joseph Beuys Sculpture Park located on the UMBC campus. This park features a collection of sculptures that visitors can explore and enjoy, adding another dimension to the art experience at the center.
In addition to the main gallery, the Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery provides another space for exhibitions. This space is often used for student exhibitions, giving visitors a chance to see the work of emerging artists from the university.
