The Castle of Hermine, located in the city of Vannes, Morbihan, served as the primary residence for the Dukes of Brittany from the late 14th century to the 15th century. This small fortified castle was integrated into the city's ramparts, reflecting its strategic importance during that period.
In the 17th century, the Castle of Hermine was ruined and dismantled. It was later replaced in the 18th century by a mansion known as the Hôtel Lagorce, named after its owner. Despite this change, the site is still commonly referred to as the Castle of Hermine, as the memory of the old ducal fortress remains deeply ingrained in the minds of the Vannetais locals.
Since 1976, the Hôtel Lagorce has been owned by the city of Vannes. It has been used for a variety of associative and cultural activities, including serving as the location for the Cultural Institute of Brittany. This continued use underscores the building's ongoing importance to the local community.
