The Castle of Burguillos del Cerro is situated on a rocky hill, providing a panoramic view of the town of Burguillos del Cerro. This location is in the region of Zafra-Río Bodión, which is in the southern part of the province of Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain. The castle's elevated position not only offers a strategic advantage but also a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape.
The Castle of Burguillos del Cerro is architecturally significant with a quadrangular layout. It comprises two main towers, known as Torre Parda and Torre del Homenaje, along with three smaller towers. Two of these smaller towers are circular, and one is prismatic. The Torre del Homenaje is particularly interesting as it consists of an upper and a lower body, with a machicolation protruding from it.
The Castle of Burguillos del Cerro underwent reconstruction in the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries. Despite its age, the castle is well-preserved, with the towers, the courtyard, and the Torre del Homenaje still standing. The castle has been rehabilitated and conditioned to accommodate tourist visits, ensuring a comfortable and enriching experience for visitors.
