The Costa e Silva Museum, also known as the Casa Costa E Silva Museum, is a significant cultural institution located in the municipality of Taquari, in Rio Grande do Sul. It is part of the State Museum System of Rio Grande do Sul, which is a network of museums that work together to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the region.
The museum serves as a memorial to Marshal Costa e Silva, the former President of Brazil. It is located in the house where he was born and displays personal objects that belonged to him, as well as furniture that belonged to his family. The museum also features instruments and furniture that tell the story of Azorean immigration, providing a glimpse into the cultural history of the municipality of Taquari.
In December 2014, the Taquari City Hall made the decision to remove a bust of the former president that was located in a city square in Lagoa Armênia. The sculpture was then installed in the museum. This decision was made in light of the National Truth Commission report, which held all presidents of the military dictatorship responsible for the atrocities committed during that period.
