The Iberian settlement of Can Oliver, declared a Cultural Heritage of National Interest in 2017, is a significant archaeological site located in the Collserola mountain range. It is situated in the territory formerly known as Layetania, which is now part of the municipality of Sardañola del Vallés, specifically in the Montflorit neighborhood. This strategic location offers a panoramic view of the Vallés plain.
Historical Inhabitation and Strategic Importance
The Can Oliver settlement was inhabited from the 6th century BC until 50 BC, and again during the Middle Ages. Its strategic hilltop location allowed families of higher social status to oversee the surrounding territory, which consisted of terraced crop fields and small agricultural communities. This historical context provides a glimpse into the social and agricultural practices of the time.
The Iberian Museum of Ca n'Oliver
The Iberian Museum of Ca n'Oliver, inaugurated on October 1, 2010, is located in the old quarry of the settlement. It showcases a large volume of objects recovered from the excavations, providing a tangible connection to the past. The museum is part of the "Route of the Iberians", a network of sites that trace the history and culture of the Iberian people.
