The Bronson Mulholland House, also known as Sunny Point, is a historic site located at 100 Madison Street in Palatka, Florida. This house was built in 1854 and has been recognized for its historical significance by being added to the U.S National Register of Historic Places on December 27, 1972. The house was originally owned by Judge Isaac H Bronson, a prominent figure in Palatka's history.
Judge Isaac H Bronson and his wife Sophronia were instrumental in the development of Palatka. Judge Bronson was responsible for preparing and sponsoring the city charter for Palatka in the state legislature. He also advocated for Palatka to be made the county seat of Putnam County, Florida. In addition, he donated the land where the county courthouse currently stands. These contributions highlight the significant role the Bronsons played in shaping the city.
The Bronson Mulholland House has a rich history that includes its use during the Civil War. Initially, Confederate soldiers used the house as a lookout. Later, when Union troops occupied the city of Palatka, they utilized Sunny Point as an encampment and as a lookout for Confederate blockade runners. This historical significance adds to the allure of the house for visitors interested in Civil War history.
