The Black American West Museum in Denver offers visitors a look into the often-overlooked history of African Americans in the American West. Located in the former home of Dr. Justina Ford, Colorado's first licensed African American female doctor, the museum houses a collection of artifacts, photographs, and exhibits that showcase the contributions of Black pioneers, cowboys, and settlers.

Visitors appreciate the museum's focus on educating about the diverse history of the American West, highlighting stories that are not typically found in mainstream narratives. The exhibits cover various aspects of Black life in the West, including cowboys, miners, homesteaders, and medical professionals.

While many find the museum's content informative and eye-opening, some visitors note that the space is relatively small and the exhibits could benefit from updates and expansion. The museum's layout can feel cramped at times, which may impact the overall experience for some guests.

The staff and volunteers are often praised for their knowledge and passion, providing insightful tours and additional context to the exhibits. However, some visitors mention that the museum's hours of operation can be limited, so it's advisable to check in advance.

Despite its modest size, the Black American West Museum is generally considered a worthwhile visit for those interested in learning about a lesser-known aspect of American history. It offers a unique perspective on the development of the American West and the role of African Americans in shaping the region.
