The museum is home to the legacy of its founder, Víctor Balaguer. This includes a vast collection of books and various works of art that he amassed throughout his life. Visitors can explore a wide range of paintings, sculptures, ceramic and glass pieces, and ethnographic objects from distant cultures.
In addition to the founder's collection, the museum also houses a remarkable collection of paintings on loan from the Prado Museum. This collection has been expanded over the years and offers visitors the opportunity to appreciate works from the Spanish and European Baroque period, including paintings by Greco, Ribera, Goya, Rubens, and Van Dyck.
One of the highlights of the museum is its Egyptian collection, which is the oldest in Catalonia. This collection includes the mummy of a child, one of only five mummies currently preserved in Catalan museums. This collection was formed due to Mr. Balaguer's curiosity for other cultures and his appointment as Minister of Overseas.

Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer has 1 rating.
The Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer in Vilanova y Geltrú, Spain, offers visitors a blend of art, history, and literature. This 19th-century institution houses a diverse collection of paintings, sculptures, and archaeological artifacts, alongside a substantial library. The museum's strengths lie in its eclectic mix of exhibits, ranging from ancient Egyptian pieces to works by notable Spanish artists. Many visitors appreciate the well-preserved building itself, which adds to the overall experience. The museum provides insight into the life and interests of its founder, Víctor Balaguer, a prominent Catalan politician and writer. While some find the collection interesting and varied, others note that the displays could benefit from more detailed explanations or updated presentation methods. The library section is often highlighted as particularly impressive. The museum's size is manageable, allowing for a comprehensive visit without being overwhelming. However, some visitors mention that not all information is available in multiple languages, which can be a drawback for international tourists. Despite its rich content, the museum remains relatively unknown compared to more prominent institutions in nearby Barcelona, which can be seen as both a positive (less crowded) and a negative (potentially underappreciated) aspect.
