The Berges House, also known as the Museum of White Coal, is a part of the network of museums in the Isère department. It is located in Lancey, within the Grésivaudan valley. This museum was once the family home of the renowned engineer, Aristide Bergès, who lived between 1833 and 1904.
The museum showcases the connection between arts and industry during the turn of the 20th century. The eclectic decor and layout of the museum were designed by Maurice Bergès, the youngest member of the Bergès family.
The Berges House holds a variety of technical and artistic collections. These collections illustrate the history of paper mills and hydroelectricity in the Grésivaudan region. They also reflect the Bergès family's appreciation for arts and architecture during the transition from the 19th to the 20th century.
