Bergen kringkaster, situated at Frudalsmyrene, Grensedalen, Erdal in Askøy municipality, served as the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation's AM broadcasting station for Bergen. This well-preserved broadcasting facility from the 1930s documents the technical development within telecommunications, both in a Norwegian and international context.
The transmitter building was erected in 1936-37 and a transmitter with 20 kW power from Telefunken was put into operation in November 1937. The station was called Bergen I. The facility had a T-shaped antenna that was stretched 195 meters between two masts that were 150 meters high.
Both the Telefunken transmitter and the Marconi transmitter from 1937 are still intact as they were once set up in the transmitter building. The Telefunken transmitter from 1935 is the world's only complete transmitter of this type. The Norwegian Tele Museum was responsible for the restoration of the transmitter building in the period 1999-2000.
