The Bavay Ancient Forum is an archaeological site museum situated in the town of Bavay, in the Nord department of France. This museum allows visitors to explore the remnants of the forum and fortress, as well as a museum that traces the history of the site and more broadly, of ancient Bagacum. Today, the Bavay forum remains one of the most significant in the entire Roman world, covering more than 2.5 hectares. The site and museum are located opposite the Notre-Dame de l'Assomption church on rue de Gommeries, near the center of Bavay, at 2 allée chanoine Biévelet.
Since 2004, the museum has been showcasing a 3D reconstruction of the forum of Bagacum Nerviorum, the capital of the Nervians. This reconstruction was updated in 2011 and continues to evolve in line with new discoveries on the site and advancements in archaeological and architectural knowledge. This feature provides visitors with a unique opportunity to visualize the ancient forum as it would have appeared in its prime.
On May 14, 2022, a galvanized steel cover, spanning 6,400 square meters and placed above the cryptoportique, was inaugurated after ten years of planning and a year of construction. This cover protects a new visitor route that is accessible to People with Reduced Mobility (PRM). The route is punctuated by mediation stations and scenography devices that explain the evolution of the site, from the forum to the fortress, providing an engaging and informative experience for all visitors.
