Our geological staircase contains three wall frames presenting the history of fossils from 550 million years ago up through to Stone Age Man in 3 steps – early life – middle life – and recent life. Over the years the focus of the museum has switched to local history, and like elsewhere Bacup has a rich social and military history all of which are reflected in our collections. Weapons, tools, and flints from, the stone age, bronze age, and iron age all feature alongside our natural history, mining and industrial collections. Other collections include artifact's from WW1 and WW2. Our photograph collection includes over 5,000 images ranging from glass plate negatives, lantern slides, photograph and postcard albums, and individual photographs of all sizes. With a well-stocked library and archives containing local history books, documents, photographs, maps, plans, and gazetteers along with other collections, on local mills, mines, public houses and chapels, that were compiled by late members relating to Bacup, and a warm comfortable meeting room and resource area with Free Wi-Fi.
