Avoca, also known as the Avoca Museum, is a historic home situated near Altavista in Campbell County, Virginia. The house was designed by the renowned Lynchburg Architect, John Minor Botts Lewis, and was constructed in 1901. This construction followed the unfortunate destruction of the original and second dwellings by fire in 1879 and 1900 respectively.
The Avoca property is preserved as a historical museum. The museum's collection, displays, programs, and interpretations are carefully planned to reflect the cultural and natural history of the region, providing visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the area's past.
Every fall, the Avoca Museum hosts a festival that includes many vineyards from the local area. Over the past few years, this festival has grown in size and popularity. Some of the participating wineries include Rebec, Hickory Hills, Tomahawk, Gabriele Rausse, Stonewall, and Peaks of Otter.
