The Australian Centre for Photography (ACP) was a significant institution in the Australian art scene. Established in 1973, it was a not-for-profit photography gallery located in Darlinghurst, Sydney. The ACP was not just a gallery, but also a hub for learning and community engagement, offering part-time courses and community programs.
After a period of shutdown in 2020, the Australian Centre for Photography was acquired by the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences in October 2022. It was then relaunched as Powerhouse Photography. Powerhouse Photography aims to continue and expand on the programs previously offered by the ACP, ensuring the legacy of the institution lives on.
The Australian Centre for Photography, now known as Powerhouse Photography, is currently located at 21 Foley St, Darlinghurst. This location is a kilometre west along Oxford Street from its previous location at number 72, and it is closer to the Central Business District. This central location makes it easily accessible for tourists and locals alike.
