The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) is a public, not-for-profit art gallery that is situated in the Mississauga Civic Centre on Celebration Square. This location is conveniently located across from the Square One Mall, making it easily accessible for tourists and locals alike. The gallery is open six days a week, with Mondays being the only day it is closed. Admission to the gallery is free, and it offers guided exhibition tours, regular art social events, workshops for adult learners, and youth programmes for schools, universities, and community groups.
The Art Gallery of Mississauga holds approximately 18 exhibitions a year on a rotating basis. This means that there is always something new and exciting for visitors to see. The gallery's Permanent Collection is also impressive, numbering over 500 works by regional and national artists. This collection was made accessible on an online archive in December 2014, allowing visitors to explore the collection from the comfort of their own homes.
In 2013, the Art Gallery of Mississauga hired artist Camille Turner to be Mississauga's first ever Artist in Residence. Turner's projects for the AGM included the (un)settler Community Journal Project and the 5&Dime walking tour, which explored strip malls as cultural spaces. These innovative projects offered a unique perspective on the city and its culture, making them of interest to both locals and tourists.
