The Archivo Histórico y Museo de Minería is a cultural institution located in the historic center of Pachuca de Soto, in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. This museum is housed in a 19th-century neoclassical building that was once part of the San Rafael Mining Cooperative. The museum's walls, made of quarry stone, enclose 950 square meters of construction around two gardens and a central courtyard.
Visitors to the Archivo Histórico y Museo de Minería begin their tour with a 15-minute video where miners talk about their work. This is followed by a visit to the geology room, which features 3D models. The tour continues on the second floor, where there are exhibits on pre-Hispanic metallurgy, as well as rooms dedicated to the mining periods of the Viceroyalty and the English.
The Archivo Histórico y Museo de Minería displays a variety of artifacts that help visitors understand the mining history of the region. These include documents, graphs, tools, and equipment that have been rescued from oblivion. The museum's exhibits cover technical processes of silver extraction, the organization of workers, and the stagnation, decline, and growth of mining in the region.
