The Ara Pacis museum (or Museum of the Ara Pacis) is a museum in Rome that houses the Ara Pacis of Augustus, an ancient monument that was initially inaugurated on January 30, 9 B.C. The Ara Pacis Augustae is an altar dedicated to the Roman goddess of peace: Pax. It was commissioned by the Roman Senate in 13 BC to honor the return of Augustus to Rome, who came back from his three year peace mission in Spain and Gaul. Besides housing this major monument, the Ara Pacis museum is also a space for temporary exhibitions.

The Ara Pacis Museum in Rome houses the ancient Altar of Peace, a significant monument from the reign of Emperor Augustus. Visitors appreciate the modern architecture of the museum, designed by Richard Meier, which provides a striking contrast to the ancient artifact it protects. The museum effectively showcases the altar's intricate friezes and reliefs, allowing visitors to closely examine the detailed sculptures. Many reviewers praise the informative displays and audioguides that provide context about the altar's historical and cultural significance. The museum's location near other Roman landmarks is convenient for tourists. Some visitors, however, find the entrance fee a bit high for the relatively small collection. A few also mention that the stark, minimalist design of the building doesn't appeal to everyone. Despite these minor criticisms, most visitors find the Ara Pacis Museum to be a worthwhile stop for those interested in Roman history and art, offering a quiet, contemplative space away from the busier tourist sites in Rome.
