The Aquarium de Lyon is a privately owned aquarium situated in the city of La Mulatière, within the metropolis of Lyon. It was inaugurated in 2002, following two years of construction. The aquarium was established by Maurice Chichportiche, who also owns the Aquarium d'Intra Muros in Saint-Servan/Saint-Malo and is the founder of the Grand aquarium Saint-Malo.
Located at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers, the Aquarium de Lyon is home to 39 different ecosystems. These ecosystems house around 3,000 specimens from 300 different species, all accommodated within 1,000,000 liters of water. The largest of these ecosystems is known as the Shark Pit, which features a Methacrylate window at the base that is 23 cm thick to withstand the pressure of the water.

Aquarium of Lyon has 1 rating.
The Aquarium of Lyon offers visitors a decent aquatic experience in the heart of France. Located near the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers, this attraction houses a variety of marine life. Visitors generally appreciate the diversity of species on display, including tropical fish, sharks, and reptiles. The aquarium's layout allows for a logical flow through different ecosystems, from freshwater habitats to ocean environments.
Many guests find the touch pool area engaging, especially for children, as it provides an interactive experience with marine life. The tropical area with its colorful fish receives positive mentions, as does the shark tank, which tends to be a highlight for many.
However, some visitors note that the aquarium is relatively small compared to other major city aquariums, which can lead to a somewhat crowded experience during peak times. A few reviewers mention that some exhibits could benefit from renovation or expansion. The pricing is occasionally cited as being on the higher side for the size of the facility.
While the aquarium does offer educational information, some visitors feel that more detailed explanations or interactive displays could enhance the learning experience. The staff is generally described as helpful, though not always readily available for questions.
Overall, the Aquarium of Lyon provides a pleasant outing for families and marine life enthusiasts, but may not meet the expectations of those looking for a more extensive or cutting-edge aquarium experience.
