Wellsford is a town located in the Auckland Council area on the North Island of New Zealand. It was part of the former Rodney District until the end of October 2010, when it became part of the newly formed Auckland Council. The town is approximately 17 km northwest of Warkworth and about 65 km north-northwest of Auckland city center.
In the early 1960s, settlers from England arrived and settled in Port Albert on the Kaipara Coast, which is about 10 km west of Wellsford. These settlers named themselves after Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, the husband of Queen Victoria, and called themselves 'Albertlanders'. They were a breakaway group from the Anglican Church looking for a new place to settle.
New Zealand State Highway 1 runs through Wellsford, connecting the town with Warkworth in the southeast and Auckland city center in the south. It also provides a link to Whangārei in the north. This makes Wellsford easily accessible and a convenient stop for those traveling along this major highway.
