Adam- und Eva-Haus and its collection

Adam- und Eva-Haus
Source

The Adam-und-Eva-Haus, situated at Hathumarstraße 7, is recognized as one of the oldest and most intricately decorated half-timbered houses in Paderborn that still stands today. This three-story gabled house, built around 1560, is particularly known for its rich carvings on the friezes of the gable front. The most impressive of the three ornamental and figurative friezes is the lower one, which gave the house its name. It tells the story of Adam and Eve's fall from grace, from left to right, ending with their expulsion from paradise.

Current Use of Adam-und-Eva-Haus

In 2017, the Adam-und-Eva-Haus was repurposed for gastronomic purposes. After undergoing extensive renovation in 2023, the house became a location of the Paderborn City Library. This transformation not only preserved the historical significance of the building but also made it a functional space for the community and visitors alike.

The Adam- und Eva-Haus in Paderborn, Germany, is a notable historic site that offers visitors a glimpse into the city's medieval past. This half-timbered house, dating back to the 16th century, stands out with its distinctive facade featuring wooden carvings of Adam and Eve. The building's architecture is a prime example of the region's traditional construction techniques.

Visitors appreciate the well-preserved exterior and the opportunity to view a piece of Paderborn's architectural heritage. The house is located in the city center, making it easily accessible for tourists exploring the area. However, it's important to note that the Adam- und Eva-Haus is primarily an external attraction, as the interior is not open to the public.

Some reviewers mention that while the house is picturesque and worth seeing, the experience is relatively brief. The limited information available on-site about the building's history is a point of criticism for some visitors. Despite this, many find the Adam- und Eva-Haus to be a charming stop during a walk through Paderborn's historic district.

Overall, the Adam- und Eva-Haus is considered a modest but interesting landmark that contributes to the city's historical ambiance. It's best appreciated as part of a broader exploration of Paderborn's old town rather than as a standalone destination.
