The Mauléon Abbey, also known as the Abbey of the Trinity of Mauléon, is a significant religious center located in Mauléon in the Deux-Sèvres department. Founded in the late 11th century, it was the most important religious center in the region. The Abbey belonged to the Order of Saint Augustine from its foundation until 1540.
The Mauléon Abbey is built of granite, the local stone, and is characterized by its neo-Gothic style. The Abbey features a façade over 65 meters long, large windows illuminating a grand corridor, and a beautiful wrought iron balcony. The neo-Gothic style and the use of local granite add to the architectural appeal of the Abbey.
Today, the former Mauléon Abbey serves multiple purposes. It houses the town hall and the post office, and the BRHAM museum has taken the place of the former "children's asylum". This multi-purpose use of the Abbey adds to its significance as a historical and cultural center in Mauléon.
