The Beith House Museum, originally known as the William Beith House, is a Registered Historic Place. It is located at 8 Indiana Street in St. Charles, Illinois. This location is significant as it is one of the few remaining riverstone houses from the 1850s in St. Charles. The house was built by William Beith, a prominent local builder who immigrated from Scotland in 1843. The house has largely retained its original riverstone exterior, a feature that sets it apart from many other local structures that have been significantly altered or covered in stucco.
The Beith House Museum was rescued and restored by the Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley in 1980. Today, it operates as a museum of house preservation. Visitors can explore exhibits that showcase mid-19th century decorative arts and learn about the techniques used to restore the interior features and exterior structure of the house. This provides a unique insight into the preservation efforts and the historical significance of the house.
