This exhibition explores a pivotal chapter in Moab’s history, inviting you to immerse yourself in a time of profound transformation. For almost 150 years, mining on the Colorado Plateau created jobs, booming cities, abandoned towns, and significant wealth for a few lucky individuals and companies. During two phases of this exhibition, we examine Moab’s uranium era, a story that shaped our town and the world.

The first phase, which opened in February 2025, highlights the Cold War-driven uranium boom, the people who lived it, and the vibrant yet challenged infrastructure that emerged. The second phase, debuting on July 19th, 2025, delves deeper into enduring environmental, health, and cultural impacts, drawing on first-person accounts. Dr. Tommy Rock will be joining us in the afternoon to discuss his research and impact of uranium mining and milling on the Colorado Plateau and throughout the Navajo Nation.

We invite you to imagine yourself in Moab during this defining era, experiencing the triumphs and trials of a community navigating its place on the global stage. The voices and experiences shared in this exhibition offer a window into a past that continues to shape our future.
