Exhibition 'Six Weeks to Go' in Kingsbridge Cookworthy Museum

Towards the end of 1943, 30,000 acres of the South Hams were requisitioned to allow Allied forces to carry out assault exercises in preparation for the D-Day landings in Normandy in 1944. The inhabitants of the towns, villages and farms in the area were given six weeks notice to leave their homes and remove all their possessions. This exhibition tells the story of the evacuation and its aftermath.
