Exhibition 'Pier Terrace Through Time' in West Bay Discovery Centre
2025, marks the 140th Anniversary of West Bay's most iconic building, Pier Terrace. Pier Terrace is a building that fascinates local people and visitors equally and has appeared in TV and film. The building and those who have lived or stayed there are part of a rich history that we want to bring to life through an exhibition and supporting programme of events including talks, walks and children's activities.
The exhibition will focus on using Pier Terrace as the looking glass to examine the social history of those who lived, stayed and worked in the building from the Victorian era through to the modern day. A key feature will be celebrating the stories of the extraordinary women associated with the building from royalty, to landladies, to social reformers. Pier Terrace was the creation of renowned Arts and Crafts architect Edward Prior, and we will provide a simple insight into what the Arts and Crafts movement was about.
