Exhibition 'Medals for the Future' in National Memorial Arboretum
A hundred medals rest upon wooden benches, a fragile memento of a moment when people gathered to remember.
Like medals awarded for courageous deeds or plaques inscribed with the names of the fallen, Twomey’s medals honour an act or quality. Glazed upon the porcelain medals are the hopes of those who gathered at the Arboretum, the qualities that we can strive to commemorate in a hundred years’ time.
Clare Twomey is a British artist who lives and works in London. Often producing work in response to a site, she has exhibited at Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate, Crafts Council, Museum of Modern Art Kyoto Japan, the Eden Project and the Royal Academy of Arts.
