Discover the gardens of Kasteel de Haar as landscape architect Hendrik Copijn intended them. During the guided tour “Through the Eyes of Copijn”, you will stroll past romantic ponds, winding paths, and formal French-style gardens, while an enthusiastic guide offers insight into Copijn’s vision and craftsmanship. An inspiring tour for lovers of nature, history, and architecture, held every Wednesday and Friday at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.

Copijn’s Gardens
During the reconstruction of the castle, the park and gardens had to be just as impressive as the castle itself. In 1895, Baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt commissioned the renowned landscape architect Hendrik Copijn for this task.

Copijn came from a nationally renowned family of growers and landscape architects and was one of the most prominent garden designers of the 19th century. For De Haar, he created a romantic English landscape park with ornamental gardens and geometric French-style gardens, with the castle as its radiant centerpiece.

Visitor Information
The tour is conducted in Dutch, lasts 1.5 hours, and is suitable for anyone interested in a unique piece of history in the heart of Utrecht. Be sure to wear walking shoes, as the tour does not stay exclusively on paved paths. The route is less suitable for visitors with limited mobility. In case of bad weather, the garden tour will be cancelled.

The tour takes place every Wednesday and Friday at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM and costs €5, in addition to a regular ticket for the castle gardens. Before or after the tour, you are free to further explore the gardens at your own pace.
