Exhibition 'Frances Hatch: Red Earth Under My Nails' in Thelma Hulbert Gallery

Created outside in situ, these paintings have been produced using and integrating earth and found materials in selected locations predominantly across Devon including Sidmouth. Describing her work Frances explains ‘Geology becomes my pigment.’

Frances Hatch was awarded the Shenzhen International Watercolour Biennial Prize in 2016 by The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. She contributed to Thames and Hudson’s 2015 publication ‘Drawing and Painting: Materials and Techniques for Contemporary Artists’ and is senior tutor at West Dean College.

Coordinating activities :

Monday 18 September 1.30-4.30pm. DEVON EARTH UNDER OUR NAILS: Artist workshop. £30 (£25 for THG friends) inclusive of materials

Thursday 21 September 6pm. TOUCH STONE: Artist Talk. £5 (£3 THG Friends)

Saturday 28 October 5-9pm (art activities finish at 8pm). Spooky Halloween Party to celebrate the national Museums At Night festival.
