Exhibition 'Fashion in Bloom' in Rijksmuseum
The Rijksmuseum gardens are home to the most beautiful flowers, but the explosion of colour continues inside the building. The Special Collections exhibition boasts a wide variety of flowers of all shapes, sizes and colours on garments and accessories. Flowers have always been and still are a beloved motif in fashion. Since time immemorial, they have symbolized new life, fertility and ephemeral beauty. The Rijksmuseum’s Fashion in Bloom exhibition showcases a colourful range of flowers on garments and accessories from the period from 1750 to 1940. Fashion designer Edwin Oudshoorn is adding a modern touch to the exhibition by creating two pieces of haute couture fashion in which he incorporates elements from the pieces in the Rijksmuseum collection. Marlies Dekkers is the guest curator of the exhibition.
