Exhibition 'Commemorating Sir Hugh Munro' in Kirriemuir Gateway to the Glens Museum

Sir Hugh Munro (1856 – 1919) of Lindertis near Kirriemuir was a founder member of the Scottish Mountaineering Club and the first person to publish a list of Scottish mountains of 3000 feet or over. Sadly he died of pneumonia in Provence in 1919 while working in a wartime army canteen, having only two Munros left to climb. Visit the Gateway to the Glens museum to view a display dedicated to Munro who provided the generic name for these mountains.
