Exhibition 'BP Portrait Award 2017' in Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery
Selected from 2,580 entries by artists from 87 countries around the world, the BP Portrait Award 2017 represents the very best in contemporary portrait painting. With parents, poseurs, figurative nudes, famous faces, expressive sketches and photo-realism, the variety and vitality of the exhibition continue to make it an unmissable highlight of the annual art calendar. The BP Portrait Award, organised by the National Portrait Gallery, London, is the most prestigious international portrait painting competition of its kind. With a first prize of £30,000 the competition has launched the careers of many renowned artists. The show includes First Prize winner Benjamin Sullivan for Breech!, Second Prize winner Thomas Ehretsmann for Double Portrait, Third Prize winner Antony Williams for Emma – as well the work of the BP Young Artist Award winner Henry Christian-Slane. The exhibition also includes a small showcase of portraits by young artists from Exeter College.
